MAG changes name to EMAG

Document Actions
The ModMan Advisory Group (MAG) have been discussing the appropriateness of its name because the standalone software known as ModMan will not exist in the Collaborationís new Information Management System (IMS). MAG therefore proposed to the IMS Group that its name be changed to 'Editorial Management Advisory Group' (EMAG). The Cochrane Collaboration's Steering Group subsequently approved this proposal on 22 June 2004. With immediate effect, therefore, the name MAG will be replaced by EMAG.

An updated remit to reflect this name change has been posted at the EMAG website.

EMAG will retain its focus on advising the IMSG on software systems relating to the management of the editorial process but the membership has been extended to include representatives of all Groups involved in the editorial management of CRG modules:

  • 6 RGCs,
  • 2 Co-ordinating Editors,
  • 1 TSC,
  • 1 Criticism Editor,
  • 1 Quality Advisory Group member,
  • 1 software developer and 1 publisher's representative.

You can view the current list of members here.

I am pleased to welcome Megan Prictor to the EMAG. Megan fills the RGC vacancy created when Mandy Collingwood resigned. You will also see that Sarah Hetrick, from the Australasian Cochrane Centre, has become an ex officio member of the EMAG in her role as the Project Officer of the working group convened to help identify best practice. This group will report to the Quality Advisory Group and Sarah will be part of EMAG for the duration of this project to ensure that editorial management software systems reflect this groupís work.

We have the following vacancies:

  1. Co-ordinating Editor Ė there are two vacancies, one as a result of the resignation of Clive Adams earlier this year
  2. Criticism Editor
  3. Quality Advisory Group (QAG) member

A member of the QAG will be appointed shortly. If any Co-ordinating Editors or Criticism Editors would like to join the EMAG then please let me know. I am also happy to reply informally to any questions you have before volunteering.

For your information, the next meeting of the EMAG will be held in Ottawa on the afternoon of Friday, 1 October 2004. Please remember to post your wishes for the development of the new IMS at for consideration at this meeting.
