CRG training and support
The Cochrane Collaboration has established the "IMS Support team" to support the ongoing training and support to Cochrane Review Group (CRG) editorial staff in the use of the IMS.
Training
During the transition to the Internet-based Cochrane Information Management System (IMS), site visits lasting 1-2 days were arranged with each registered CRG. These visits took place between April 2005 and August 2006. Ongoing training is usually provided during regional meetings and annual colloquia. However, if the CRG editorial base relocates or there are significant staff changes (e.g., a new Review Group Coordinator is employed), the CRG can contact their IMS Support person to arrange a new site visit. If a new CRG is established, the IMS Support person will offer a site visit during which the new staff will be trained. Before a site visit, IMS Support will provide the CRG with an IMS induction checklist (see IMS-training-checklist.doc) and, if necessary, provide follow-up training by phone if the items on the induction checklist are not completed during the site visit.
CRG satellite training
Tailored IMS training of staff at CRG satellites should be provided by the parent CRG. The parent CRG can request that a member of the IMS Support team arranges a site visit to provide training to satellite staff members, but such a visit would have to be funded by the CRG or satellite. To ensure that the training is appropriately tailored to the needs of satellite staff, the parent CRG should be actively involved in specifying the role of the satellite and how the satellite staff will work together with the parent CRG. Staff at CRG satellites are welcome to attend IMS training sessions at regional meeting and annual colloquia.
CRG and Satellite Support
Ongoing support in the use of the IMS is provided to CRGs and CRG satellites by the IMS Support team. For information about who is the IMS Support person for your CRG or CRG Satellite, please go to www.cc-ims.net/Projects/newIMS/Training/IMS_Support. Queries about training and support of CRGs and CRG satellites can be forwarded to your IMS Support person or to the Director of the Cochrane IMS: Monica Kjeldstrøm (mk@cochrane.dk)
