1. By-lines for Cochrane reviews: updated guidance

It is important that the construction of by-lines for protocols and reviews follows a standard format to ensure that by-lines are correctly displayed on Interscience and MEDLINE. Please refer to the updated guidance on the acceptable formats on the Handbook website at http://www.cochrane.org/resources/handbook/updates4.2.5.htm#CitingAuthors.

The place to list the individual contributors to a collaborative group named on a by-line is in the Contribution of reviewers' section of the RevMan file.

2. Archie module reports

Remember to check the Archie publication reports closely before the module submission deadline. In most cases, this report should match the report Wiley will send you after the deadline. However, please note that 'Edit' does not appear in the Wiley reports because their reports provide the statuses as they will actually be published (ie those that will generate 'flags' when published) and 'Edit' is not a published status value.

3. CRG contact details

Wiley, usually Ben Hickling, emails the Wiley module feedback reports on module submissions to CRG RGCs and Assistant RGCs and will phone them if there are urgent queries after submission. It is important, therefore, to check that both email and telephone addresses for RGCs and Assistant RGCs are correct and up-to-date in Archie. Please also remember that if you are the contact person for the CRG and you update your contact details in Archie, they will not be automatically updated in the Contact details section of the Properties for the CRG. You will have to edit these separately and republish the module.

4. Tips and checks for module submission

We have put together a checklist of points you should consider before the module deadline - see attached. We hope you find this helpful. Please remember to contact your IMS Support person if you have any queries about your forthcoming module submission.

5. Validation check

Please validate all your reviews (right click CRG name > Reports > Validate Reviews) in Archie before this module deadline to ensure that reviews published before you started publishing your module through Archie have no errors.

6. New version of RevMan 4.3

There is a new version of RevMan 4.3 at http://www.cc-ims.net/RevMan/RevMan4.3.

This version does not include any major fixes so there is no need to upgrade immediately. However, it includes two new features that you might find useful now.

  • Status of reviews (active, withdrawn, inactive) is available on the 'Check out' screen thereby making it easier to identify the review you want when you have several with similar titles.
(Tip: you can sort by column by double clicking on the heading.)
  • RevMan can now open files with the extension 'r4x', which means you can check out a review from the web interface of Archie (by right clicking on the title and choosing 'Check out (Xml format)') and open it in RevMan in one single step allowing you to bypasss the check out screen in RevMan. This can save you time, particularly if you have many reviews. However, please note that 'Import > XML format' is a function of RevMan 4.3 only, which means that sending files from Archie to authors is not an option at the moment.

7. Question of the week

Question: I thought the next module deadline was Wednesday, 24 May 2006 but the date in the Organizer Calendar in Archie is 25 May 2006. Which is correct?

Answer: For most people the module deadline is 24 May 2006 but to ensure that no CRG is disadvantaged because of the time zone they work in, Wiley has set it to 0800 BST on 25 May 2006.
