1. Next deployment (update) of Archie: Monday, 4 July 2005

The next deployment of Archie takes place on Monday, 4 July 2005. Please check the What's new in Help for full details of the changes, which will include:

For Phase 1 and 2 Users

(a) To make it easier to find a Cochrane entity, entities are no longer grouped by entity type under the Resources tree view. Instead, entities are listed alphabetically under Resources. To now view entities by type, highlight the top level folder "The Cochrane Collaboration" to reveal a list of all entities grouped by type.

(b) You can customise your opening screen in Archie (such as start page, resource tree view and date formats) by using the Preferences option which has been added to Tools, i.e. Tools > Preferences.

For Phase 2 Users

(a) A bug in the Publication Wizard has been fixed. You will have to check the box confirming that authors have signed the permission for publication form before you are able to publish new and substantively updated reviews.

(b) A bug in the check-in function that sometimes resulted in a person having both contact and co-author roles on a review has been fixed.

2. Reminder

(a) Selecting people

As you know, you can select people by running a Search and then using the Select and Select All buttons at the bottom of the Results screen. You can also select people one at a time directly from the Resources tree view by right-clicking the name of the person and choosing Select. Your selection set can be viewed by clicking the Selection tab under Search.

(b) Editing the roles for use within your CRG

To edit the list of roles for use within your CRG, open your CRG's Properties and click the Roles tab. Here you will see the list of roles currently available in your CRG. To add a role, edit a role or delete a role you don't use, highlight the name of the role and click the appropriate button. You can also edit the Permissions associated with the roles within your CRG by clicking the Edit button and then the Permissions tab, but remember that if you do this the Permissions you have given the role will apply to everybody who is assigned that role in your CRG.

3. Questions of the week

(a) Question: Archie often crashes on me when I first do a search. Is there anything I can do about this?

Answer: If Archie frequently crashes on you, try turning off the script debugging in Internet Explorer. To disable the script debugging, go to Tools > Internet options: Advanced, and under Browsing check 'Disable script debugging'.

(b) Question: I created an email string in Archie to use with Outlook but it didn't work. Why?

Answer: Because Archie uses a comma as a separator whereas the default separator in Outlook is a semi-colon. You can change the default separator in Outlook from a semi-colon to a comma - for details on how to change the default, see 'Exporting contact details' in Help.
